Tymoshenko: The real price of electricity for Ukrainians is 97 kopecks

MP Yulia Tymoshenko demands to immediately cancel the increase in electricity prices.

The leader of the Batkivshchyna party, MP Yulia Tymoshenko, expressed confidence that the price of a kilowatt of nuclear energy, which is used for the needs of Ukrainian consumers, is 97 kopecks. Therefore, in her opinion, there was no reason to raise the cost of electricity to UAH 4.32.

The maximum fair price of electricity can be 97 kopecks per kilowatt! Where did these corrupt officials get the 4.32 hryvnia, almost 4.5 times more? Everything is obvious. Just under the guise of war, they are ripping us off in three ways, cynically and cruelly

- Yulia Tymoshenko emphasizes.

The leader of Batkivshchyna emphasizes that the destruction of thermal power plants as a result of Russian aggression is not and cannot be the reason for raising electricity tariffs. And the thermal power plants themselves, which are in private hands, can be restored within two weeks.

First, people do not consume electricity from thermal power plants for household needs, they consume only nuclear electricity. Secondly. Today, there is enough equipment to repair thermal power plants without your money. It only needs to be moved from idle units to working ones. This will take no more than two weeks. And third, if you do need a minimum of money to repair private thermal power plants, this money is systematically provided either by our Western partners or the state budget. It has nothing to do with raising tariffs

- Yulia Tymoshenko says.

Tymoshenko believes that the "unfair tariff" should be canceled immediately, and she will do everything possible to do so. "Batkivshchyna has already initiated the creation of a temporary investigative commission in the Verkhovna Rada to check the energy sector of Ukraine.

According to Tymoshenko, in order to remedy the situation, it is necessary to cancel the increase in the cost of electricity, cancel the increase in the cost of electricity transportation, create a single center for managing the energy complex for the duration of the war, and restore a fair energy market system. Tymoshenko also believes that one of the main reasons for the tariff increase is the transformation of the state-owned Energoatom into a joint-stock company. After this decision, the tariff in Ukrainians' bills began to rise from UAH 1.4 to UAH 2.64, and now to UAH 4.32.

"During the war, and under the guise of war, one of the most valuable electricity production facilities in Europe, the state-owned Energoatom, was de facto taken away from the Ukrainian nation. It is the state-owned Energoatom that has always provided Ukraine with more than 50% of its total electricity production at the cheapest prices. For example, the price of nuclear electricity in 2019 was 57 kopecks per kW.

"Energoatom was taken away from the Ukrainian nation by Law No. 2896-IX, which was signed by the President on February 6, 2023. In the middle of the war. Who cares about the war, and who cares about Energoatom. Now the cunning bastards who have taken over Energoatom can rob us as they please. This is the first and foremost reason why the electricity tariff is being raised, because Energoatom is no longer the people's company," Yulia Tymoshenko emphasized.

She also recalled that earlier the Prime Minister had announced his intention to raise the tariff to UAH 7-8 and called for the urgent return of Energoatom to state control.
