Poland should be cautious about promises of further financial aid to Ukraine at the next NATO summit in Ankara, Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Friday, adding that Warsaw is increasingly skeptical about its eastern neighbor. This is reported by Bloomberg, writes UNN.

"Poland bears its own great responsibility for protecting the eastern border of the European Union," Tusk said at a press conference in Warsaw. "Ukraine is fighting, but Poland bears the main burden of protecting the border and needs special treatment."
Tusk noted that he has already given instructions to the ministers of foreign affairs and defense regarding Poland's position at the summit. At the same time, he emphasized that Poland will continue to support Ukraine in its war with russia.
It is not yet entirely clear whether this referred to the statement that NATO leaders plan to adopt in the Turkish capital. According to Bloomberg, in the draft joint statement, allies may commit to allocating €70 billion ($80 billion) in aid to Ukraine in 2026–2027.
Poland and Ukraine are in an increasingly complex historical dispute. The conflict escalated after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was stripped of Poland's highest state award due to naming a Ukrainian military unit after nationalist formations from World War II.
In Kyiv, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) is considered a force that waged a guerrilla struggle for independence during and after the war. In Warsaw, however, it is accused of genocide for its involvement in the killing of approximately 100,000 Poles in Volhynia in 1943–1945.
Tusk also said that after a meeting of the foreign ministers of both countries in Warsaw, there were signs that Ukraine might prefer to discuss the difficult past rather than escalate tensions.
