According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, as of Wednesday morning, maximum wind speeds near the storm reached 25 meters per second. Chan-hom was located near the city of Shima in Mie Prefecture and was moving in an east-northeasterly direction at a speed of about 40 kilometers per hour.
Meteorologists warned of the risk of flooding on several rivers in the Tokyo area. The storm is expected to cross Tokyo Bay during the day before moving east over the Pacific Ocean.
