Thai news outlets report that the accident occurred late in the afternoon near an airport rail link station in a central district. The city's Erawan Emergency Medical Center reported that at least eight people were killed and more than 20 were injured.
Videos of the moment of the accident posted on social media show a line of vehicles stopped at a railway crossing when a freight train slammed into an orange bus at the front. The impact also dragged several nearby vehicles along the tracks before the bus was engulfed in flames. Several motorcyclists and their riders were also seen being thrown onto the road following the collision.
Later videos showed a group of rescuers entering the charred bus after the flames were contained.
