Law enforcement officers prevented a possible explosion of a building in the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kyiv. A man was taken to the police station, and criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding this fact. On the morning of May 15, law enforcement officers received a report from a man who stated his intention to release natural gas into an apartment of a high-rise building on Ihor Turchyn Street and cause an explosion.
Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers evacuated the residents of the building and shut off the gas supply to prevent possible consequences.
Operatives also quickly identified the apartment where the man was located. He locked himself inside the premises and, through the door, threatened to inflict bodily harm on himself, as well as claiming to possess a grenade. Police conducted negotiations with the offender, and shortly after, he exited the premises. He turned out to be a 40-year-old local resident. During a search of his home, no explosive objects were found,
Subsequently, the detainee was taken to the police station. Following the incident, criminal proceedings were initiated under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - hooliganism. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment from three to seven years. The issue of notifying the offender of suspicion is being resolved.
