Law enforcement officers exposed a group that helped military personnel leave their units for money. The organizers were a serviceman and three civilians.

Law enforcement officers, under the procedural guidance of the Kropyvnytskyi Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Field of Defense of the Southern Region, exposed a group that helped servicemen leave military units and hide for money. This was reported by UNN, citing the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Details

The investigation established that the organizers of the criminal scheme were a serviceman and three civilians. They facilitated the illegal abandonment of places of service by military personnel stationed in units and training centers in the Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, and Zhytomyr regions.

The “services” cost between 2,000 and 8,000 US dollars per person. The perpetrators gave servicemen instructions on how to inconspicuously leave the territory of a military unit and pass through checkpoints. A car was waiting for them at a designated location, taking them home or to places where they could hide.

Law enforcement officers conducted 14 searches at the suspects’ residences in the Kirovohrad and Cherkasy regions, as well as in their vehicles.

They seized 7,700 US dollars, vehicles, and means of communication.

The detained suspects were notified of suspicion of aiding and abetting desertion committed by a group of persons acting in prior conspiracy under martial law (Part 5 of Article 27, Part 4 of Article 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Three more servicemen who used their services and abandoned their places of service were notified of suspicion of desertion under Part 4 of Article 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The article provides for imprisonment for a term of 2 to 12 years.

The court ordered two of the suspects to be held in custody for 60 days, with the possibility of bail in the amount of UAH 133,120 for each. Regarding the others, motions to apply similar preventive measures have been submitted to the court.
