The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, representatives of the relevant committees and the Ministry of Finance are to discuss the draft law on mobilization. First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Kornienko said this in an interview with Radio Liberty, UNN reports.
"My prediction is that there will be some kind of compromise version. I don't know what the compromises will be about, but it will definitely be different from what the government has introduced," Kornienko said.
According to the official, there is a big question about providing financial resources for the mobilization.
"Our army is financed exclusively by taxes... By certain actions proposed in the government's bill, we can reduce the tax base. Then it turns out that we are solving one problem, as if we are increasing the number of people who can be drafted... On the other hand, we are reducing the tax base. Because people will go into the shadows," the MP said.
He also added that he sees a risk in concentrating the management of restrictions for "evaders" only in the hands of territorial recruitment centers:
I think it's a pretty big risk. In some hands, it's just collecting something. It doesn't matter whose hands it is.
Recall
On December 25, the Cabinet of Ministers registered a draft law on mobilization in the Verkhovna Rada. The proposed provisions include lowering the conscription age from 27 to 25 years, the possibility of including persons who evaded mobilization in the register of debtors, and the abolition of the deferral for persons with group III disabilities.
