A magnitude 7.1 earthquake shook the waters southwest of Mindanao Island, in the southern region of the Philippines, this Thursday. According to the national earthquake monitoring station, the center of the tremors was at a depth of about 630 kilometers off the second largest Philippine island of Mindanao.
The U.S. Seismological Observatory determined the center of the earthquake to be just under 106 kilometers off the coast of Mindanao.

The Philippine Seismological Agency said in a warning that the quake, which struck deep offshore, would not cause damage but warned of possible strong aftershocks.
