U.S. intelligence estimates that by 2035, Russia could increase its arsenal of hypersonic missiles to 1,000 units, and China to 4,000, which is seen as one of the key threats to U.S. territory. This was reported by Defense Express, citing a study by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), writes UNN.
Details
According to estimates, China currently has about 600 hypersonic missiles, and Russia has between 200 and 300, including the "Zircon," "Kinzhal," and "Avangard." In addition, the U.S. predicts a significant increase in Chinese arsenals of intercontinental ballistic, cruise, and long-range aviation missiles.

IISS experts note that U.S. intelligence is traditionally prone to overestimating future missile threats. As an example, they cite the 1998 Rumsfeld Commission forecast, which expected Iran and North Korea to have intercontinental ballistic missiles within five years, but this did not happen.
The U.S. plans to massively increase its own missile arsenal
Despite this, Washington is already taking practical steps to strengthen defense capabilities. In particular, the Pentagon has reached an agreement with RTX to increase production of SM-3 IIA and SM-3 IB interceptor missiles.
The U.S. Department of Defense also plans to purchase up to 10,000 ground-based cruise missiles, 4,300 air-launched cruise missiles, and up to 12,000 low-cost Blackbeard hypersonic missiles.
