Details

The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee has officially approved the program and disciplines of the 2030 Winter Olympic Games, which will be hosted by the French Alps from February 1 to 17, 2030. The upcoming competition will be historic - for the first time at a Winter Olympics, gender equality among participants will be achieved, and the program will be enriched with spectacular innovations

 - the statement reads.

It is noted that the 2030 Olympics will be the first in history to maintain absolute gender parity in percentage terms. A total of 3,046 athletes will take part in the competition: 1,525 women and 1,521 men.

The Games program will consist of 126 medal disciplines: 56 women's, 55 men's, and 15 mixed. Compared to previous years, women's representation in a number of sports will increase significantly. In particular, in luge and skiing it will reach 50%, in bobsleigh it will rise to 39.5%, and in hockey to 45.6%.

The IOC has included three new disciplines and a total of 16 new events in the program:

  • Freeride (skiing and snowboarding) - 44 athletes (22 women and 22 men) will compete on natural mountain slopes for the first time. This discipline is extremely popular among young people and is visually spectacular;
    • Synchronized figure skating (synchro9) - a team competition that will add dynamics to the figure skating tournament and become a key factor in achieving gender balance. Teams will consist of 9 athletes;
      • Ski mountaineering - officially approved as an additional sport. Athletes will compete for medals in individual races (men and women) and sprint (men, women, mixed relay).

        Also, a number of new disciplines have been added to the Alpes 2030 program:

        • mixed single relay in biathlon;
          • men's and women's team sprints in speed skating;
            • mixed team skicross in freestyle;
              • mixed team parallel snowboard events;
                • women's team Super Team competition in ski jumping;
                  • individual starts (men and women), sprints (men and women), and mixed relay in ski mountaineering.

                    However, the IOC decided not to include Nordic combined in the program of the "Alps-2030" Games, as this discipline showed the lowest interest rates at the last four Olympics. Nevertheless, Nordic combined remains in the program of the 2028 Youth Olympic Games and may return in 2034.

                    Recall

                    The International Olympic Committee temporarily lifted restrictions on the Russian Olympic Committee, which were imposed after the ROC included the Olympic committees of the occupied territories of Ukraine into its composition.

                    The International Olympic Committee presented the official emblems of the 2030 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games Alpes 2030, which will be held in the French Alps.
