The Council of the International Handball Federation (IHF) has fully lifted the sanctions imposed on the national teams of Russia and Belarus in February 2022 after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation. This is reported on the organization's official website, reports UNN.

Thus, Russia and Belarus will be able to participate in tournaments with their national symbols - flag and anthem.
The IHF recognizes that full reintegration may require a transitional period for both Russian and Belarusian teams and officials. Nevertheless, the IHF looks forward to their return to the international handball community and hopes that with the support and cooperation of all stakeholders, the necessary steps will be taken to ensure a timely and effective return
At the same time, the IHF confirmed "its long-standing commitment to the Handball Federation of Ukraine," expressed solidarity with Ukraine and strongly condemned the ongoing war in Ukraine and its devastating consequences.
"The IHF sincerely hopes that the conflict will soon end, paving the way for a return to peace, the restoration of normal sports relations and peaceful international cooperation," the organization said.
