There will be no tangible easing of the heat in the near future, as a new portion of African air will be added to the local factors contributing to it, said PhD in Geography, meteorologist Igor Kibalchych in a forecast for the weather website Meteoprog.ua, UNN reports.
Details
According to him, the temperature in July was getting higher every day due to the influx of air masses from tropical and subtropical regions of North Africa and the Middle East.
At the same time, according to the forecast, "by the end of the second decade of July, no noticeable decrease in air temperature is expected". Moreover, according to Kibalchych, "some increase in heat and its spread to the northern and partially western regions of Ukraine is expected from July 15 to 19." "During this period, the maximum daytime temperatures will be +33...+38°C, in the southern and central regions, in some places +40...+42°C. The average daily temperature, respectively, may reach and exceed +30°C, which is 6-11°C higher than the climatic norm," the meteorologist said.
"Several factors will contribute to the additional warming of the air on these dates: low relative humidity, low clouds, local physical and geographical features, and synoptic processes from the southwest. It turns out that a new portion of African air will be added to the local factors and, against the background of a high-altitude subtropical ridge, will lead to record temperatures in most regions," Kibalcic said in his forecast.
It is noted that July 2024 could be the warmest July on record, breaking the record of +42°C set in Luhansk in August 2010.
A gradual change in the weather conditions is expected only from July 20. According to the forecast, fresher and cooler air will start flowing into Ukraine from the regions of central and northwestern Europe. "Starting from the western and northern regions, the abnormal heat will retreat to the east and leave the territory of Ukraine at the beginning of the third decade of the month. The African air will be replaced by a moderate air mass, so the average daily temperature will be close to normal for this time of year," the forecast says.
As noted, the cold snap will be followed by the long-awaited precipitation.
