The European Commission has signed an agreement with Tik Tok to withdraw the TikTok Lite Rewards program from the EU. The company has pledged to close the app and not try to circumvent the ban, otherwise it faces a fine of up to 6% of its annual turnover.

The European Commission has ordered TikTok to permanently remove the Tik-Tok Lite Rewards program from the territory of European Union countries. This is reported by UNN with reference to The Decision of the European Commission.

Details

The European Commission has signed an agreement with TikTok, according to which the EU will not recognize the company as a violator of the law on digital services, so the company will not be fined.

In turn, TikTok is obliged to close Tik Tok Lite in the EU market and should also not try to circumvent its obligations, for example, to launch the same function under a different name or deploy a version.

At the same time, The European Commission warned that if Tik Tok does not fulfill its obligations, the company may be immediately sanctioned. In particular, the company will be fined up to 6% of the global annual turnover without the need for a new investigation.

Also The European Commission added that it will monitor TikTok's compliance with its obligations.

Addition

The European Commission launched an investigation into Tik Tok Lite in April of this year, as soon as the app was launched in Spain and France.

It should be clarified that TikTok Lite is a new standalone version of the TikTok app that allows users to earn points by completing certain "tasks" in the app, such as watching videos, liking content, subscribing to authors, inviting friends, and so on.

The European Commission notes that a reward program that encourages addictive behavior can potentially have a negative impact on the physical and mental health of users, especially minors.

Recall

The European Commission has launched a formal antitrust investigationto assess whether Delivery Hero and Glovo violated EU competition rules.
