The investigation into a former Ukrainian law enforcement officer who defected to Russia during the occupation of Kupyansk has been completed. He faces life imprisonment for treason and collaboration.

A special investigation into former Ukrainian law enforcement officer Dmytro Mаmon, one of the suspects in the launching of a missile at the village of Groza, who defected to the enemy and helped the occupiers during the capture of Kupyansk, has been completed, UNN reports, citing the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

"...an indictment against a 23-year-old former police officer on high treason committed under martial law and collaboration (Part 2 of Article 111, Part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) was approved and sent to court," the statement said.

According to the investigation, in the summer of 2022, during the occupation of Kupiansk, the accused, being an active law enforcement officer, voluntarily defected to the enemy. He became the "acting inspector of the road patrol service of the road patrol service group of the department of the state road safety inspection" in the so-called "Department of Internal Affairs of the Provisional Civil Administration of Kharkiv Region." The traitor was on duty at Russian checkpoints, during which he unreasonably stopped and seized cars from civilians.

Later, he took a new position and became "inspector (of road patrol service) of Platoon No. 1 of the separate company of traffic police of the State Inspectorate for Road Traffic Safety".

For his work for the Russian Federation, the traitor received 45 thousand Russian rubles per month.

Before the de-occupation of Kharkiv region, the accused fled to the territory of Russia. He was dismissed from the ranks of the National Police of Ukraine.

The traitor will be tried in absentia in the Chervonozavodsky District Court of Kharkiv. The man faces life imprisonment for his actions.
