According to a report by Deadline Hollywood, unidentified sources told them that the director "simply changed his mind" about making The Hateful Eight. The Deadline report also notes that there were earlier rumors that Tarantino was rewriting the script and that production of the film was delayed due to strikes by writers and actors.
As a reminder, Brad Pitt was supposed to play in Tarantino's previously announced film The Movie Critic. He was attached to The Movie Critic as the lead actor.
Instead, Deadline reports that Tarantino will focus on a completely new project for his tenth and final film. However, Quentin Tarantino himself has not yet confirmed the alleged cancellation of The Movie Critic.

Earlier, Tarantino commented on his upcoming film The Film Critic as telling the story of a real-life movie journalist for a "pornographic rag" he often read as a child.
