The South Korean parliament voted to lift the state of emergency. The corresponding decision received 190 votes "in favor", reports UNN.

Reasons for the political crisis in South Korea

According to the BBC, in the parliamentary elections held in South Korea this spring, the Democratic Party won 192 out of 300 seats in the National Assembly.

As a result of the devastating defeat suffered by the president's party "People Power" in the elections, the leader of this party, Han Dong-hoon, resigned, and the country's Prime Minister, Han Deok-soo, also resigned.

The media wrote that the voting in the spring elections could be considered an interim referendum on the confidence in President Yoon Seok-yeol, who has three years left in office.

BBC correspondent in Seoul Jake Kwon recalls that after his party lost the parliamentary elections, the president was unable to pass the laws he needed, instead he had to desperately veto any laws passed by the opposition.

This week, the Democratic Party cut the budget proposed by the government and the president's party, but Yoon Seok-yeol cannot veto it.
