South Korea will help restore the building of a vocational lyceum in Kyiv region, which was destroyed by Russians in 2022.  The relevant protocol was signed by Director of the Korea International Cooperation Agency in Ukraine Taekin Lee, Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi, and Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration Ruslan Kravchenko, UNN reports.

Details

On February 26, 2022 , a missile strike completely destroyed a 3-story academic building and damaged a dormitory. This did not stop the educational process - on September 1, 2022, the institution resumed its work. A dormitory was converted into an academic building so that children could continue their studies. Thanks to the assistance of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency TIKA, the destroyed Training and Practical Center for Sewing Production was restored, and new metal-plastic windows and doors were installed in all classrooms of the educational institution.

"However, we did not abandon our plans to restore everything destroyed by the Russians. South Korea will help rebuild the main building of the lyceum. International partners will also provide equipment for the educational process," said Kravchenko.

The South Korean government will finance the reconstruction, which will amount to $14.9 million. International partners will also monitor the entire process.

"We continue to seek and raise funds to rebuild the educational institutions destroyed by Russia. Unfortunately, due to the enemy's cynical attacks, we have more than 350 destroyed educational institutions. However, we see the world uniting around Ukraine to help restore justice. And today we have another international partner in approaching this goal," said Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Oksen Lisovyi.

The area of the new building will be 7.9 thousand m2. It will house educational, production, and administrative premises, a library, an assembly hall, a gym, and a shelter.

The reconstructed lyceum will be able to enroll a total of 1,200 students, 400 of whom will be enrolled in retraining programs for adults.

"In total, 245 educational institutions in Kyiv region were damaged and destroyed as a result of the full-scale invasion. We have already restored 209. International partners provide significant assistance. Together, we are returning children to quality and, most importantly, safe education," added Kravchenko.

The lyceum provides training in the following areas: catering and bakery production; hotel and restaurant business; sewing production; construction; service industry; IT technology; electrical engineering production; motor vehicles; design; banking.
