From April 1 to June 15, the annual "season of silence" will last in Ukraine – a period provided for the protection of animals during mass reproduction. During it, it is forbidden to make noise in the forest and on the rivers, cut down trees, light fires and otherwise disturb wild animals - writes UNN.
What does the "season of silence" provide for?
The "season of silence" was introduced in 2016 in accordance with the Law of Ukraine "On the Animal World". It lasts every year from April 1 to June 15. This period is intended to ensure the protection of animals during mass reproduction. The "season of silence" applies to everyone who is in or conducts activities in forests, steppes and near water bodies.
At this time, any activity that may disturb wild animals is prohibited. In particular, the following are prohibited:
- carrying out all types of felling in all forest areas of hunting grounds and other forest areas within the territories of the nature reserve fund:
- use of transport in forest areas (cars, buggies, quad bikes, etc.) and making fires;
- carrying out works and activities that create increased noise (shooting, blasting, concerts, festivals, use of motor boats, etc.);
- fishing, research, scientific-design, scientific-industrial fishing with the involvement of the technical base of industrial fishing enterprises, holding rallies and other competitions on vehicles.
Punishment for non-compliance with the "season of silence"
For non-compliance or violation of the requirements provided for by law, the perpetrators may be held liable under Article 87 of the Code of Administrative Offenses "Violation of the requirements for the protection of the environment and migration routes, resettlement, acclimatization and hybridization of wild animals". Such a violation is punishable by a fine of 30 to 50 non-taxable minimums. Officials will pay from 50 to 70 non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens.
Why is this important?
Spring is one of the most important periods in the animal world, because it is at this time that most animals breed offspring, which must have time to grow up before the onset of the first cold weather. The "season of silence" also coincides with the spawning season of many fish, including those listed in the Red Book. During this period, you can catch fish only with one rod/spinning rod from the shore, it is forbidden to fish in spawning grounds.
The "season of silence" is a nature conservation measure aimed at protecting the environment of wild animals, their breeding conditions and migration routes during the period of mass reproduction.
Earlier, UNN wrote that in Ukraine, from April 1, the annual spring-summer spawning ban on catching fish and other aquatic biological resources starts in most fishing reservoirs.
