A strategic oil terminal caught fire in Saint Petersburg following an attack by 50 drones. The fire broke out on the opening day of the International Economic Forum.

On the morning of June 3, numerous explosions were heard in Saint Petersburg during a large-scale drone attack. According to OSINT analysis by ASTRA, the strike resulted in a fire on the territory of JSC "Petersburg Oil Terminal" – one of the largest oil product transshipment complexes in northwestern Russia. This was reported by ASTRA and local authorities, according to UNN.

Details

ASTRA analysts geolocated eyewitness videos and concluded that the fire occurred specifically on the territory of the oil terminal.

According to Russian media, the enterprise has a capacity of up to 12.5 million tons of oil products per year, covers an area of 37 hectares, and is included in the list of strategically important facilities of the Russian Federation.

The governor of the Leningrad region reported that air defenses were active and claimed that 50 drones were shot down over the region. At the same time, he did not comment on the information regarding the attack on the oil terminal and the subsequent fire.

The attack took place on the eve of the economic forum

The incident occurred on the opening day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), which will run from June 3 to 6 and is expected to gather foreign businessmen and government representatives. According to ASTRA's calculations, the distance from the attacked oil terminal to the "Expoforum" exhibition complex, where the forum is being held, is approximately 17 kilometers.

Residents of the city are massively publishing photos and videos of fires, explosions, and smoke near the oil terminal.

According to ASTRA, this is not the first attack on important Russian energy facilities. Currently, no official information regarding the scale of the damage at the terminal has been released.
