On December 13, Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv extended the pre-trial restraint for Roman Chervinskyi, who was served with a notice of suspicion in the case of the shelling of Kanatove airfield in Kirovohrad region by Russian occupiers, UNN reports citing Suspilne.
Details
Chervinsky will be held in custody for another 60 days until February 10 without the right to bail.
The court also ordered the head of the SBU pre-trial investigation department to provide the suspect with the necessary medical treatment and food due to his deteriorating health.
The lawyers plan to appeal.
Chervinsky's defense lawyers had previously requested the judge's recusal, but were denied.
Prosecutors asked for a closed session without the media. The court rejected the prosecutors' request and the hearing will continue in open session.
Next, the prosecution requested that a letter from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, be attached. The content is unknown.
The defense lawyers asked the court for 15 minutes to read the motion and the letter from Zaluzhnyi.
The court adjourned the hearing. Chervinsky was given the opportunity to read the letter from the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
The lawyer objected to the attachment of the letter because, in his opinion, the prosecutor is substituting the questioning of witnesses. Also, according to the defense, there is information there that is not relevant to the case.
Chervinsky noted that the real letter from Zaluzhnyi has a different, distinct number than the number of the letter with questions from the prosecutor's office. Chervinsky accused the prosecutors of fabrication.
The lawyers asked to interrogate the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces and another witness in court. Human rights activist Lyudmila Kusa explained that earlier the defense had applied to the OGPU with a demand to interrogate Zaluzhny, but they were refused.
According to her, later the investigating judge granted such a request and allowed to summon the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces for questioning. Lawyers waited, reminded in letters about the need to summon Zaluzhny to the court, but this was allegedly not done.
Prosecutors objected to Zaluzhnyi's summons due to the fact that this is not a hearing on the merits of the case.
The court rejected the request of the lawyers to summon the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces.
