Russian commanders either encourage their subordinates or allow them to participate in the execution of prisoners of war, according to analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Details
The ISW report indicates that geolocation footage released on December 22 shows Russian troops executing five Ukrainian prisoners of war near the Donetsk-Zaporizhzhia region border in Blahodatne (south of Velyka Novosilka). According to the Institute for the Study of War, the Russian Armed Forces have recently executed more Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) on the battlefield.
According to the organization, Russian commanders are either complacent or conniving with their subordinates in participating in the executions of prisoners of war, in clear violation of international law. These actions are a violation of international law, ISW emphasizes.
Recall
UNN reported that in the Vremivsk direction in the Volnovakha district, four Ukrainian defenders were forced to take cover in a private house during an artillery attack. After being surrounded by Russian troops, they left the building and were captured. It is noted that two prisoners of war were left lying on the ground, and the other two were taken to the road. Subsequently, all four Ukrainian soldiers were cynically shot.
