In June 2026, almost 393,000 Ukrainians were employed in Germany, which is 70,000 more than a year earlier. The number of social welfare recipients among Ukrainians decreased by 48,000 over the year.

Russian propagandists are spreading a narrative that in Germany "they don't know how to make Ukrainians stop living on social benefits and start working." In reality, Ukrainians are increasingly integrating into the German labor market, reports UNN citing the Center for Strategic Communications.

Details

According to data from the Federal Employment Agency of Germany, in June 2026, nearly 393,000 Ukrainians were employed. This is 70,000 more than a year earlier.

At the same time, 86% of all employed Ukrainians work in jobs with full social insurance. It is these workers who pay contributions to the German social insurance system.

Also in June 2026, about 679,000 Ukrainians received basic social benefits, while a year earlier there were about 727,000. That is, over the year, their number decreased by approximately 48,000

- the publication states.

As noted by the Center for Strategic Communications, Ukrainians remain one of the most difficult groups to integrate. The majority of adult refugees are women — a significant portion of them are raising children alone. Many people are still completing language and integration courses.

The employment process is gradual. Real statistics show not a "reluctance to work," but a steady increase in employment and a gradual decrease in dependence on social assistance
