Russia may have a considerable amount of ammunition in reserve, but the question is what is their condition, how they were stored, and whether they can be used in the future for combat operations. This was announced by the spokesman for the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Yuriy Ihnat during a telethon on Thursday, an UNN correspondent reports .
Ihnat reminded that Ukraine also had a huge number of ammunition depots during the Soviet era. There was a period when Russia tried to hit them - everyone saw these explosions in the warehouses.
I think Russia has a considerable amount of them, too, but the only question is what condition they are in, how they were stored, and whether they can be used for combat operations in the future. Because in many cases the warehouses were in open areas, not in storage. Because it is impossible to put such a huge amount of munitions that the Soviet Union accumulated in its time underground or in a storage facility, Ihnat said.
He also recalled that the ammunition was counted in thousands of conventional railroad cars, not tons.
"This is a very large amount of ammunition that was accumulated from the Soviet Union in the confrontation with the West at that time," Ihnat noted.
