Republican senator suggests Ukraine 'cede territories to Russia'

Republican Senator J.D. Vance suggested that Ukraine might have to cede territory to Russia for peace, which drew criticism and underscored his previous indifference to Ukraine's fate.

Against the backdrop of the visit of of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Washington, Republican Senator J.D. Vance said that Ukraine may have to cede some territories to Russia to end the war. This is reported by the Voice of America, according to UNN REPORTS.

Details

The Republican senator strongly opposes the continuation of American support for Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression, arguing that it is supposedly important to achieve a ceasefire, because "it is in our interests and theirs to stop the killing" of people.

In response to these comments, University of Illinois professor Motrya Codill to these comments emphasized the significant number of people of Ukrainian descent living in Ohio who elected Vance as their senator: "Great job, Ukrainian voters of Ohio."

Last year, on the War Room Pandemic podcast, Steve Bannon, former former strategist for former President Donald Trump, Vance said: "I don't really don't really care what happens to Ukraine one way or the other". At the time, retired U.S. Army General retired U.S. Army General Berry McCaffrey reacted to his statements on Twitter as follows: "J.D. Vance is a disgraceful person, unfit for public office. His comments are those of a puppet of Russian aggression."
