The case is finally closed: US Special Prosecutor Kari Morrissey has withdrawn an appeal to the New Mexico court regarding the murder of Ukrainian-born cameraman Halyna Hutchins by Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin on the set of the movie Rust. This was reported by Reuters, according to UNN.
Details
The prosecutor's office tried to appeal the decision of the Themis to cancel the consideration of charges of manslaughter against Baldwin. The case even went to a jury trial due to procedural issues. In the end, the prosecutor recognized that it was futile to pursue the case further.
The actor's lawyers said that the decision to withdraw the appeal finally confirms what they had been assuring from the very beginning - “the incident on the set was an unspeakable tragedy, but Alec Baldwin did not commit any crime.”
For reference
Galina Hutchins, 42, was shot dead with a gun that Baldwin was using during a rehearsal on the set of the western Rust, which was filmed in New Mexico. Director Joel Souza was also wounded in the incident.
Recall
Alec Baldwin's involuntary manslaughter charges were unexpectedly dropped by a New Mexico court because investigators withheld evidence that could have incriminated the actor in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Galina Hutchins on the set of Rust.
