The court sentenced the 60-year-old man for transferring data about strategic objects to the enemy. The traitor claims he wanted to "have some fun in retirement" and earn a little money for his grandchildren.

In Khmelnytskyi region, a pensioner who worked for the Russian FSB for money and on his own initiative was convicted of treason. This was reported by UNN with reference to the statement of the Khmelnytskyi Court of Appeal.

Details

It is noted that the Shepetivka City and District Court of Khmelnytskyi region found a 60-year-old resident of Shepetivka district guilty of treason committed under martial law and sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

As established by the court, in early April 2023, the pensioner established contact with a representative of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB of the Russian Federation) via the Telegram messenger. For monetary remuneration and on his own initiative, he agreed to transmit military information and perform other tasks in favor of the aggressor state in the war against Ukraine.

- the report says.

It is indicated that in the messenger he received tasks to conduct reconnaissance in Khmelnytskyi region regarding the location of strategic objects, their security status, actual activities, and also to determine the priority of hitting units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. In addition, the man independently initiated the collection of data on military objects known to him. Subsequently, he reported by sending photos, videos, addresses, and explanatory captions. He received money for completing tasks.

He was detained on August 30, 2023, after another completed task in favor of the aggressor state - installing a GPS tracker under a bridge support over a railway.

During the trial, the accused did not admit his guilt in the imputed crime. According to him, he wanted to "have fun in retirement" and earn a little for his grandchildren. The first person who contacted him and offered easy money was a man whom he considered a representative of the Ukrainian special services, with whom he was "playing a game." He claimed that he did not initiate or carry out tasks against the state, and found photos and videos of factories, military equipment, and warehouses on the Internet: he photographed them and sent them to the customer. For this, he was paid about 3-4 thousand UAH.

Having evaluated the examined evidence, the court concluded that the accused's guilt in committing a criminal offense under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - in state treason, i.e., an act intentionally committed by a citizen of Ukraine to the detriment of the defense capability, state and economic security of Ukraine: providing assistance to a representative of a foreign state in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine, committed under martial law - was proven.

"In particular, the court rejected the arguments of the accused that he allegedly did not know with whom he was corresponding. Its content unequivocally indicates that the man was aware that he was communicating with a representative of the special service of the aggressor country, and the information provided by him under martial law could be used to plan and carry out combat or subversive actions against Ukraine. When imposing the sentence, the court took into account that the accused is a pensioner, has a group III disability, committed a particularly serious crime, did not admit his guilt and did not repent of what he had done," the report says.
