Guinness World Records Day is a reminder that human capabilities are endless. Today, everyone can remember that there are many ways to show individuality, go beyond their limits, and inspire others. The Guinness World Records are not just numbers, but stories of people who believed in themselves and persevered to reach their goals.

history of the Guinness Book of World Records

Surprisingly, the history of the book, which today captures the unexpected achievements of humanity, amazing natural phenomena and amazing facts, began with controversy. Director of the Guinness brewery Hugh Beaver and his friend went hunting, and there they began a discussion about which European game flies faster. Subsequently, three years later, the situation was repeated in one of the pubs, where the subject of dispute again became — golden plover. Then Hugh Beaver realized that it would be great to publish a book that could be referred to in such disputes. In addition, it seemed to him that it was a good idea to publish this book under the leadership of the Guinness brewery, because then consumers would have a corresponding association with the brand of delicious beer. The work on the book was entrusted to twin brothers and owners of the fact research agency in London, Ross and Norris Mcwirter. They spent a whole year checking a large number of facts, communicating with various specialists, and collecting scientific evidence. And already on August 27, 1955, the world saw a book called "The Book of extraordinary Guinness", which very quickly gained popularity. And what is symbolic, it was the first ever bestseller not in the genre of a novel or detective story. Then the Mcwirter brothers continued to work on the book and came to the rules to publish a new revision every year in October.

In the first decades, there were no restrictions on setting Guinness World Records. Later, however, records related to dangerous tests were removed from the book to avoid lawsuits.
