“Christopher Nolan's next film, The Odyssey, is a mythical action epic shot around the world using the new IMAX cinema technology. The film brings Homer's seminal saga to IMAX screens for the first time and is set to hit theaters worldwide on July 17, 2026,” Universal Pictures said in a statement to X.
As Variety clarifies, Nolan has assembled a star-studded cast to match the epic story: Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, and Charlize Theron are set to play the lead roles.
Last week, Holland admitted that he signed up for the project without knowing many of the details. “To be honest, I don't know what it's about,” Holland recently told The Dish podcast. “I'm super excited, but it's been pretty quiet about the project. I met with [Nolan] and it was amazing. He kind of gave me a general outline of what it is, and I'm sure when it's ready, he'll announce what it's about.
The studio and Nolan are said to be planning to begin production sometime in the first half of 2025. Nolan is set to write and produce alongside Emma Thomas under their Syncopy banner.
