Syria's newly appointed Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani on Tuesday called on Iran not to spread chaos in Syria but to respect the will of the Syrian people and the country's sovereignty. This was reported by UNN with reference to Reuters.
In his post on X, Shibani wrote: "Iran must respect the will of the Syrian people, the sovereignty and security of the country. We warn them against spreading chaos in Syria and hold them accountable for the consequences of their recent statements.
He did not specify which statements he was referring to.
In a televised speech on Sunday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei called on Syrian youth to "confront those who organized and caused this danger with firm determination.
"We anticipate that a strong and noble group will also emerge in Syria, because today the Syrian youth have nothing to lose. Their schools, universities, homes and streets are not safe," Ali Khamenei said.
The rebels who overthrew the regime of Bashar al-Assad are seeking to regulate the political life of the country as soon as possible. The ruling General Command has appointed Asaad Hassan al-Shibani as the new Foreign Minister. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense will be headed by an engineer specializing in agriculture, Marhaf Abu Qasra.
Iran supports Russia in the war against Ukraine, but at the same time is disappointed that Moscow has failed to effectively help it in Syria, Lebanon and Yemen. Moreover, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has blamed Iran for the failures in Syria, which has only complicated relations between the two countries. The alliance between the two countries will remain situational and based solely on temporary benefits for both.
