Details
After that, the disease was transmitted to three more people, including two children. The entire family is currently in quarantine.
According to local authorities, the detected virus belongs to a new variety of Klade 1b. Among those who have been in contact with the sick are students in one of the school classes and work colleagues. All contact persons have been provided with information about possible symptoms and are required to immediately report suspected infection to medical authorities. They were not quarantined.
According to a representative of the administration, the risk of further spread of the disease remains low, as the virus is transmitted only through close physical contact. For privacy reasons, information about the place of residence of the infected is not disclosed.
This is not the first case of monkeypox in Germany this year. In the fall, a man from Cologne, who also returned from Africa, was diagnosed with the disease. According to experts, the risk of a large-scale epidemic in Europe is currently assessed as low.
