A pilot and his two young daughters survived a plane wing crash into an icy lake in Alaska. The three passengers remained on the wing of the aircraft, which was partially submerged, for about 12 hours before being spotted by another pilot.
Terry Hodes explained that on Sunday evening he saw a Facebook post asking for help in the search for a missing plane. On Monday morning, he and a dozen pilots set out to explore the rugged terrain. Hodes headed to Lake Tustumena, near the base of the glacier.
It broke my heart a little, but as I got closer, and went down, I saw three people on the wing.
It was like a miracle: starting with the fact that the plane did not sink, to the fact that the survivors were able to stay on the wing. It should also be noted the strange survival at night temperatures, which dropped below zero degrees Celsius.
"They were alive, alert and moving," Hodes said, adding that they greeted him.
In an emergency, the Alaska National Guard was able to arrive at the scene and rescue the people who crashed.
The staff reported that the girls were surprisingly dry, but the man was in the water at some point, noted Lieutenant Colonel Brandon Holbrook, commander of the 207th Aviation Regiment "We don't know to what extent, but he was hypothermic."
