The North Korean military will start directly participating in hostilities against the Ukrainian armed forces in November, Ukraine's permanent representative to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya, said at a UN Security Council meeting yesterday. According to him, from October 23 to 28, at least seven planes with up to 2,100 DPRK soldiers flew from the eastern military district to the border with Ukraine, UNN reported.
Details
Kyslytsia reminded that at the UN Security Council meeting on October 21, Ukraine and a number of other delegations raised the issue of the DPRK troops' participation in the Russian armed aggression. Since then, he said, the situation has been developing in a threatening direction.
According to available information, the DPRK's military contingent of up to 12 thousand servicemen is being trained at five training grounds of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces
According to Kyslytsya, this contingent includes at least 500 officers of the DPRK army, including three generals from the General Staff of the DPRK's "Korean People's Army":
- Colonel General Kim Yong-bok, Deputy Chief of the General Staff for Special Forces Operations;
- Colonel General Lee Chang-ho, Deputy Chief of the General Staff - Chief of the Intelligence Directorate;
- Major General Shin Geum-chul, Head of the Main Operations Department.
Subsequently, it is planned to form at least 5 units or formations of 2,000 to 3,000 servicemen each from the DPRK military. One such unit is equivalent to a motorized rifle regiment.
It is assumed that the DPRK military will wear Russian uniforms and use Russian small arms. They will also be provided with Russian identity documents
He pointed out that to conceal their presence, DPRK servicemen will be integrated into Russian units manned by representatives of ethnic minorities from the Asian part of Russia. Among them, for example, is the "special Buryat battalion" of the 11th separate airborne assault brigade of the Russian airborne troops.
According to Ukraine, between October 23 and October 28, at least seven planes with up to 2,100 soldiers flew from the eastern military district to the Russian border with Ukraine.
The number of DPRK soldiers expected to be redeployed from Russia's coastal region by the end of October 2024 could reach 4,500. It is also expected that in November 2024, the DPRK military will begin to take direct part in hostilities against the Armed Forces of Ukraine
On October 26, 400 DPRK soldiers arrived in the western part of the Kursk region of Russia. The area of their deployment was prepared by the engineering units of the Moscow Military District of the RF Armed Forces. Moreover, preparatory work is underway to deploy additional DPRK forces in the area.
According to Kyslytsya, the DPRK units are likely to operate in the area of responsibility of the 11th Separate Air Assault Brigade. He added that a task force of 40 DPRK servicemen has been conducting reconnaissance in the area of responsibility of this brigade since October 20.
Even the mice and cockroaches in this room, not the Russian ambassador, know that none of the countries providing assistance to Ukraine are under UN Security Council sanctions. In turn, receiving aid from North Korea, which is under full sanctions, is a blatant violation of the UN Charter and UN Security Council resolutions
He called on the Security Council and its sanctions committee to consider the issue of non-compliance by the DPRK and the Russian Federation with UN Security Council resolutions.
