Specialists of Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise continue to conduct examinations on the consequences of the occupation of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the Exclusion Zone by the Russian army.

The experts said that they are systematically involved in the study of events related to the aggressor's military actions on the territory of the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone and, in particular, the Chornobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve.
Within the framework of comprehensive forensic examinations in the military, fire and technical, engineering and environmental fields, experts of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise address the causes of fires in the Chornobyl Radiation and Environmental Biosphere Reserve, as well as the type of weapons used by the aggressor to shell the area. In addition, issues of environmental pollution and significant environmental damage caused by combat, destruction and damage to flora and fauna are being investigated. The final stage of the relevant research is to establish the amount of damage caused to the state as a result of violations of environmental legislation

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine said that during the occupation of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, Russians stole and destroyed property worth more than 1 billion hryvnias.
In this regard, an official of Rosatom involved in the theft and destruction of property of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant was served a notice of suspicion. He is charged with violation of the laws and customs of war provided for by international treaties ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, by prior conspiracy by a group of persons (Part 2 of Article 28, Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the suspect was on the territory of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant from February 24 to March 31, 2022.
According to the prosecutors, he ordered to dismantle valuable equipment and other property, load it into military vehicles and take it to the territory of Belarus. Other property that could not be exported was ordered to be destroyed.
