The US is waiting for Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's envoy Kirill Dmitriev to report to his boss about a meeting with US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff in Washington before either side takes any further steps. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing a "person familiar with the negotiations", UNN reports.
Details
It is noted that Witkoff and Dmitriev met a few days after US President Donald Trump expressed his frustration with Putin over the lack of momentum in ceasefire negotiations in the war in Ukraine.
After the meetings, Dmitriev said that Witkoff "was really focused on solutions."
I think there is an understanding of how we can move towards completing the deal, and there has been a lot of discussion in this area
The publication points out that American officials are increasingly frustrated with the slow pace of negotiations on the part of Moscow.
What seemed like a breakthrough last week on a partial ceasefire in the Black Sea quickly disappeared after Russian officials said it was contingent on easing sanctions. This statement contradicted the US statement describing the parameters of the agreement
It is also noted that 49-year-old Dmitriev heads the Russian sovereign fund and plays an important role in negotiations between the US and Russia.
"His presence in the US capital underscores the prospects for expanding business cooperation between the two countries on potential projects, including the Arctic and liquefied natural gas," the authors summarize.
Reminder
The CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries Kirill Dmitriev reported that he held meetings with key members of the US administration in Washington. In particular, he stated that significant progress had been made on an agreement on a ceasefire in Ukraine.
