An armed man opened fire at an office of Taiwan's Ministry of Digital Technology in Taipei before being arrested by police.

An armed man stormed into a Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) office in Taipei, Taiwan on Thursday morning and opened fire before being arrested, according to MODA and the city's police department, writes UNN citing Focus Taiwan.

Details

According to MODA, the man entered the ministry's first floor lobby around 10 a.m. local time and began shouting anti-government slogans.

He then fired shots from a gun he was carrying, causing the glass of the main entrance to the ministry to shatter and damaging an adjacent wall, but there were no injuries, the ministry said.

The man later tried to go upstairs to the ministry building but was blocked by security guards. Shortly thereafter, police arrived at the scene and arrested him, the report said.

In a separate statement, the Taipei City Police Department said it received a call at 10:21 a.m. about an armed intruder at the ministry and immediately dispatched officers to the scene.

Upon arrival, police arrested the suspect, a man in his 50s surnamed Chang, and seized a handgun and a long-barreled shotgun from him.

Police cordoned off the area and took the suspect in for questioning, the department said.

Several media outlets reported that the man fired three shots from a long-barreled shotgun inside the ministry, but those details have yet to be confirmed by police.
