The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the country restricts the export of the most sensitive defense technologies only to allies and closest partners. They emphasized that the decision is related solely to export control regulations.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim sharply criticized Norway's actions, stating that such a move could undermine trust in European arms manufacturers. According to him, he expressed a "strong objection" during a phone conversation with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre after the blocking of missile deliveries and launcher components for the littoral combat ship program.
Bloomberg notes that the contract for the construction of the ships was signed back in 2011. The cost of the program has risen from 9 billion to 11.2 billion ringgit, while the number of ships was reduced from six to five.
