In Prykarpattia region, SBI officers in cooperation with the SBU exposed a scheme to smuggle men of military age across the border, organized by a local law enforcement officer. UNN reports with reference to the State Bureau of Investigation.

Details

A law enforcement officer from Prykarpattia, involving two civilians from Ivano-Frankivsk region, organized a scheme to smuggle men of military age to Romania.

The SBI reports that the man took $10,000 from those wishing to enter Europe by illegally crossing the border. The law enforcement officer's accomplices drove the men by car to the border line outside the checkpoints in Chernivtsi region, then showed them how to cross to Romania on foot.

At least three people have been documented to have been smuggled across the border using this scheme.

The law enforcement officer and two of his accomplices were served a notice of suspicion of smuggling men of military age across the border (Part 3 Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to 9 years with confiscation of property.

During the searches, the SBU seized USD 20 thousand, unregistered weapons, ammunition, and two cars used to transport the fugitives. Two criminals have already been detained as a measure of restraint.
