As the Ministry of the Interior notes, increased security risks persist in the regions along the eastern border, primarily due to attempts to illegally cross the state border. The greatest migration pressure, as before, falls on the Latvian-Belarusian border.
It is also noted that the likelihood of hybrid threats and provocative actions remains, as well as risks of smuggling and other types of cross-border crime. Thirdly, there is a need to ensure the constant readiness of the relevant services, the Ministry of the Interior emphasizes.
To prevent entry into the country at unauthorized locations and to prevent attempts to illegally cross the border, it is necessary to extend the enhanced protection regime, the ministry believes. Currently, this regime is in effect until June 30
As reported, this year 6,362 attempts to illegally cross the state border have already been prevented.
Last year, the State Border Guard of Latvia stopped 12,046 attempts to illegally cross the Latvian-Belarusian border.
