The new Persian Gulf and Strait Authority requires all vessels to pre-register and obtain permission. The first 60 days of service will be free of charge.

Iran has introduced new rules for passage through the Strait of Hormuz and requires all vessels planning to cross the strategic maritime corridor to pre-register and obtain the appropriate permit. This is reported by UNN with reference to CNN.

The corresponding requirement was published by the newly established Persian Gulf and Strait Authority (PGSA), which stated that the new rules are designed to ensure safe navigation after the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.

All vessels must register and obtain a permit and insurance before entering the strait to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels

– the statement from the agency reads.

The Iranian side noted that during the first 60 days of the agreement, registration, insurance, and security services will be free of charge for shipowners.

During the 60-day period, fees for security, environmental, and other related services, as well as Iranian insurance, will not be charged to shipowners and will be covered by the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran

– stated in the PGSA.

At the same time, Tehran made it clear that after this period ends, new fees for using the route may be introduced.

In addition, Iran has obligated all vessels to adhere to specially designated traffic routes through the strait.

Non-compliance with the established course is the responsibility of the vessel owner

– emphasized the Iranian agency, explaining this as necessary to avoid mine hazards.

The new rules came into effect amid the gradual resumption of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz after several months of limited traffic due to the threat of attacks in the region.
