In Zakarpattia, a pensioner was detained on suspicion of raping two minor sisters. The court remanded the suspect in custody, but he may be released on bail of more than UAH 330,000; the prosecutor's office is preparing an appeal, UNN reports, citing the Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor's Office.

One of the sisters mustered the courage to tell her mother about the crime after speaking with a psychologist. The 14-year-old girl was receiving psychological assistance as a child who had found herself in difficult life circumstances.
After turning to law enforcement together with their mother, both sisters told them about a prolonged sexual relationship with their neighbor. According to their accounts, it systematically took place in his home or in a utility room of an apartment building.
The man was detained the same day. As part of the pretrial investigation, he was notified of suspicion of raping a person under the age of fourteen, regardless of her voluntary consent (Part 4 of Article 152 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Urgent investigative actions have been carried out; all the factual circumstances of the crime are currently being established.
At the prosecutor's request, a 66-year-old suspect was remanded in custody as a preventive measure. At the same time, the investigating judge of the district court set an alternative preventive measure in the form of bail amounting to more than UAH 332,000. The prosecutor's office will appeal this decision insofar as it concerns the amount of bail.
