In the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, a six-month-old girl who died from the Ebola virus was buried. This is the third child from the same orphanage to fall victim to the current outbreak of the disease, reports AP, writes UNN.

During the burial ceremony, the coffin was lowered into the grave by medical workers in protective suits, masks, and gloves. Due to the risk of spreading the infection, only they were allowed to come into contact with the child's body.

The outbreak continues to spread
The epicenter of the epidemic remains the Ituri province, where over 90% of all infection cases have been recorded. According to Congo's Minister of Health Roger Kamba, as of now, 933 cases of the disease and 245 deaths have been confirmed. Also, about 35,000 people who may have had contact with the infected are under observation.

The situation is complicated by the fact that the current outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain, for which there is still no approved vaccine or effective treatment. In addition, medics report a shortage of protective equipment, particularly masks and gloves, which increases the risk of infection among staff. The Minister of Health stated that all medical services in Ituri will be made free of charge, and payments to healthcare workers will be doubled.
