The actions of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are very restrained in terms of freeing the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant from the Russian Federation and transferring control to the Ukrainian side. The IAEA is showing an inability to achieve this goal with the tools they have at their disposal. This was announced by the head of Energoatom Petro Kotin on Radio NV, according to a correspondent of UNN .
I would assess the IAEA's actions as very restrained in terms of solving the main problem - the liberation of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and the transfer of control over it to the Ukrainian side. On a personal level, I expect that the IAEA's position will change dramatically now
According to him, the overwhelming majority of the IAEA Board of Governors support the transfer of control over the ZNPP to Ukraine.
In principle, the IAEA takes a position in this case, I won't say pro-Ukrainian, but it is correct that the station should be liberated and control should be transferred to Ukraine... So far, the IAEA has shown an inability to achieve the goal with the tools it has. At the same time, the presence of IAEA experts at all our plants certainly has a positive role. The Russians, while shelling our infrastructure, have not yet shelled nuclear power plants. We hope this will not happen
Addendum
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) intends to propose to Ukraine and Russia to assess the technical condition of the Zaporizhzhya NPP in 2024.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi called for refraining from any actions that violate the five specific IAEA principles to prevent a nuclear accident and ensure the integrity of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.
