The name of the city of Brovary has nothing to do with anything Soviet or Russian. Therefore, now, during a full-scale aggression, such a renaming is definitely not the right time. This position was voiced in a commentary to UNN by Ukrainian MP Ihor Murdiy, who refused to participate in the registration of the relevant resolution in the Verkhovna Rada.

"I was also approached by my colleagues, MPs, to sign this resolution. My position is unequivocal: the name of the city of Brovary has nothing to do with the Soviet Union or Russia. Therefore, today such renaming is definitely not the right time," said Ihor Murdiy.

At the same time, according to the MP, if someone provides convincing arguments in favor of renaming, this issue can be revisited after the war is won. However, the opinion of the city's community must be taken into account.

"But even if we raise such a question after the victory, we should definitely take into account the position of local residents. In the meantime, I see nothing wrong with Brovary remaining Brovary until Ukraine wins," the MP added.

Recall

A resolution to rename Brovary to Brovari was previously registered by a group of MPs led by a representative of the Golos faction, Roman Lozynskyi.

Residents of Brovary do not support the initiative of the Verkhovna Rada to change the name of their city to Brovari. This is evidenced by a survey conducted by journalists of UNN on the streets of the city.

At an extraordinary session, members of the Brovary City Council almost unanimously approved an appeal to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk with a request not to submit a draft resolution to rename Brovary to Brovari.

According to the mayor of Brovary, Ihor Sapozhko, there are three conclusions from scientific institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine that the name "Brovary" is historical and should be preserved.
