A man who took his former cohabitant's children hostage and then stabbed a two-year-old boy in front of his older sister has been sentenced to life imprisonment. This was reported by Attorney General Ruslan Kravchenko, writes UNN.
In Dnipropetrovsk region, a man who murdered a two-year-old boy with particular cruelty has been sentenced to life imprisonment
According to Kravchenko, the incident occurred in July 2021 in one of the villages of the Kryvyi Rih district. The convicted man came to the house of his former cohabitant, taking advantage of the absence of adults. Only two children were in the home: a 7-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy.
The children knew this man and trusted him. He took advantage of that.
Amid jealousy and conflict with the woman, he decided that she "owed" him for the ruined relationship and used the children as a tool of pressure. He tied their hands and feet, taped the girl's mouth, completely depriving her of the ability to move and call for help
After that, the offender called the mother and, threatening to kill the children, demanded money.
"How much is the life of your children worth?" this is not an emotion, this is a crime recorded in the case materials
Despite the mother's readiness to fulfill all demands, he did not stop. In front of the sister, he inflicted four knife wounds to the neck of the two-year-old child. After that, he took the money and phone and fled.
The girl managed to free herself and call for help. The attacker was detained that same day. The boy fought for his life in intensive care for another four days, but the injuries were incompatible with life.
The court supported the prosecution's position and found the man guilty of a number of grave and especially grave crimes. The sentence—life imprisonment. This sentence will not bring back the child's life. But this is the state's response
According to the Attorney General, such sentences are a clear signal: no crime against a child will go unpunished.
Every day we open criminal proceedings for crimes against children. These are cases where it is difficult to comprehend the level of cruelty. Murders. Violence. Abuse. A reality that has no excuses. But for every such crime, responsibility follows
Reminder
Attorney General Ruslan Kravchenko called on parliamentarians to support amendments to the legislation providing for mandatory life imprisonment for the intentional murder and rape of minors.
