Record heat in France has led to a sharp increase in mortality in Paris. According to the French Emergency Medical Service (SAMU), on Friday, during medical visits, 109 deaths were recorded, whereas during this period of the year, about seven are usually registered, reports UNN.

SAMU clarified that the statistics do not include deaths in hospitals, but only cases that occurred at home or in public places. Over the day, the service also received about 3,400 calls, recorded 30 cases of cardiac arrest, and one patient was hospitalized with a body temperature of 43.7°C due to severe hyperthermia.

In addition, on Friday, a man drowned in the Saint-Martin canal while swimming outside the permitted area. Since the start of the heatwave in France, 55 cases of drowning have already been registered.
Despite the gradual easing of the heat, 35 departments of France remain under the highest, red level of weather danger. Doctors report a sharp increase in the burden on hospitals and emergency services.
