Details
"On May 21, a 37-year-old resident of the village of Havrylivka decided to take the lives of his two dogs. The man wrapped a rope around the animals' necks and hung them on a metal pipe, then pulled them out of the noose and hit them on the head and body with the butt of an ax. When the animals stopped showing signs of life, the man put them in a bag and threw them in a trash can," the police wrote on Telegram.
One of the animals reportedly survived. A concerned citizen heard its miserable whining and called the police.
Wasting no time, as noted, the community police officers took the injured animal to a veterinary clinic in their official car and purchased the necessary medicines for it. The dog was in critical condition. It was saved from imminent death by timely medical care.
"The dog is doing well now. The dog named "Gosha" is now with the animal rights activists of the rehabilitation center "AKELA", who provided the animal with a full course of treatment," the police said.
Community police officers reportedly proved the man's involvement in the crime.
The offender was served a notice of suspicion of committing a crime stipulated by Part 3 Art. 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (cruelty to animals).
For his actions, the man faces a sentence of imprisonment for a term of 5 to 8 years.
