Donald Trump told how he narrowly avoided an assassin's bullet at a campaign rally. According to him, the bullet missed his head by a quarter of an inch.

Republican presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump described in detail the moment when he narrowly avoided an assassin's bullet during a campaign rally on Saturday, UNN reports, citing BBC and Sky News.

In an hour-and-a-half speech on the stage of the Republican National Convention, he described how he felt the assassin's bullet hit his ear and how the Secret Service agents acted.

With his ear bandaged, he told the enthusiastic audience: "I will tell you what happened, and you will never hear it from me again, because it is very painful.

The 78-year-old former US president said the bullet "came within a quarter of an inch of taking my life.

Trump mentioned that he was on the podium in Butler and turned to the screen that displayed the chart.

He said: "I heard a loud whistle and felt something hit me very, very hard on my right ear. I said to myself: "Wow, what was that? It could only be a bullet," and I put my right hand to my ear, put it down, and my hand was covered in blood.

"I immediately realized that it was very serious, that we had been attacked, and I fell to the ground in one motion," he said.

Trump added: "The bullets kept flying as very brave Secret Service agents rushed onto the stage and threw themselves at me to protect me.

"There was blood everywhere, and yet somehow I felt safe because God was on my side," Trump said.

Many in the crowd at the Republican convention cried when he said in the arena that blood was pouring everywhere.

"The amazing thing is that before the shot, if I hadn't moved my head at the last moment, the killer's bullet would have hit the target, and I wouldn't be here today," he said.

"I shouldn't be here," he told the audience.

And in response, the crowd began to chant: "Yes, he should.
