Official of the Uzhhorod City Council, director of a utility company and a contractor have been served with suspicion notices in a case of a scheme to embezzle budget funds during major repairs, with losses estimated at 700,000 hryvnias, the National Police reported on Wednesday, UNN reports.

According to the National Police, the suspects include the head of a department of one of the departments and the director of a utility company, as well as an individual entrepreneur.
"Officials and a local entrepreneur set up a scheme to embezzle budget funds during the overhaul of a utility company's buildings. To do this, they entered false information about the scope and cost of work in the certificates of completion. As a result, the amount of damage caused amounts to almost UAH 700 thousand, which is confirmed by expert opinions," the National Police said.
They confirmed that "today, on December 20, police searched the administrative premises of the city council and a utility company, as well as the residences of the suspects and other persons involved."
Based on the evidence collected, the head of a department of one of the departments of the Uzhhorod City Council and the director of the utility company, as well as the contractor, were served with a notice of suspicion. Their actions are classified under Part 4 of Art. 191 (Misappropriation, embezzlement or seizure of property through abuse of office) and Part 1 of Art. 366 (forgery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Documentation activities were conducted jointly with the SBU in Zakarpattia region.
