The European Union is currently considering a series of restrictive measures to be included in the new 21st sanctions package against the Russian Federation, including restrictions against approximately 20 more shadow fleet tankers that Moscow uses to transport its "black gold." This was reported by Bloomberg, citing informed sources, according to UNN.

According to sources, measures currently being discussed as part of the new sanctions package against Russia include imposing sanctions on more banks, oil traders, refineries, and crypto operators in third countries that Moscow uses to bypass the bloc's restrictions.
In addition, about 20 additional shadow fleet tankers could fall under sanctions.
Ultimately, the sanctions regime could be extended to vessels carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG), which would limit the Kremlin's ability to create a shadow fleet for LNG.
The EU has already imposed sanctions against hundreds of vessels in the Russian Federation's shadow fleet.
However, the new sanctions are unlikely to include a total ban on maritime oil transport. Several member states continue to oppose this option due to instability in the Middle East, and unless the measure is supported by the broader G7 group.
According to sources, the main objectives of the new package are to further reduce Russia's energy revenues and its financial sector, as well as to deprive its military industry of necessary supplies.
Other proposals for the upcoming 21st sanctions package include trade restrictions on certain critical minerals, metals, and ores used in Russia's aerospace sector and the development of drones that Moscow uses to bomb Ukrainian cities, as well as technologies such as signal jamming.
The bloc is also considering export controls for about two dozen firms, including companies from China, India, Turkey, and Central Asia, which still supply Russia with restricted goods found in weapons or necessary for their production.
The EU intends to finalize and formally propose the package of new sanctions against the Russian Federation in early June.
