EU countries approved restrictions on the use of lead shot to reduce harm to the environment and wildlife. The decision still needs to be approved by the EU Council and the European Parliament.

The member states of the European Union have approved restrictions on the use of lead shot to reduce negative impacts on the environment and wildlife. This was reported by Yle, writes UNN.

Details

As reported by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health of Finland and the Ministry of the Environment of the country, the corresponding decision was supported at a meeting of the REACH Committee last Thursday.

At the same time, the restrictions still need to be approved by the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament.

The restrictions will only apply to lead shot. The use of lead bullets will remain permitted without changes.

The Finnish ministries noted that the new rules are designed to reduce the negative impact of using lead shot on the environment and reduce the harm that lead causes to wildlife.
